Mission House Creative Vice President Guest Speaker at Business Entrepreneur Summit

Jim Roessner leads two discussion panels at Appalachian State University's Walker College of Business

BOONE, N.C., October 8, 2004 – Jim Roessner, the Vice President of Mission House Creative, spoke at two different panels during the Third Annual Entrepreneur Summit at the Walker College of Business. His first discussion focused on marketing strategies while his second focused on hiring and retaining high quality staff. The school invited Roessner due to his status as a respected alumnus of Appalachian State University and his six years of entrepreneurial experience with Mission House Creative.

"This was my second time giving back to Walker College where I originally honed some of my expertise in business," Roessner said. "It's been an honor to be involved and each time I learn a little bit more."

"The two sessions I participated in this year were very interactive with some challenging questions coming from the seniors. It's energizing to witness the fresh creativity and passion of students dreaming of becoming entrepreneurs."

After his presentations, Roessner also participated in the annual Pitch Your idea in 90 Seconds contest in which 20 students compete and are judged by a panel of entrepreneurs. Originally, 90 student ideas were submitted with the top 20 selected for the competition. Roessner participated as a judge and was impressed with many of the pitches.

"There are some great new ideas flowing out of the College of Business right now," Roessner said. "The students had some interesting and well-thought-out business plans. I hope my comments encouraged them because their enthusiasm inspired me."

The Entrepreneur Summit originated in 2002 due to the growing interests and requests by current and prospective students for more courses related to entrepreneurship. Currently, more than 1,000 business alumni of the Walker College of Business have been identified as owning their own business.
